|NEXTEL AND ALEPH PARTNER TO PROVIDE ADVANCED
WIRELESS DATA APPLICATIONS FOR GROUND TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES
|RESTON, Va., - November X, 2001 - Nextel Communications
Inc. (NASD: NXTL) today announced it has partnered with ALEPH Inc.,
the leading provider for ground transportation services. This partnership
will allow Nextel to offer wireless dispatch, billing and reservation
management data solutions to ground transportation companies, such
as limousine and black car service companies, to quickly match customers
with available vehicles and drive new revenue.
Historically, ground transportation companies have had few options
other than proprietary wireless data systems to manage dispatching.
ALEPH will deliver data applications over Nextel's nationwide packet
data network to facilitate reservation and dispatching, while also
managing orders from dispatch centers and driver units. The solution
eliminates the need for transportation companies to maintain a costly,
private data network and provides an open, flexible platform to
easily add new applications.
"ALEPH links all types of fleets with vital job information
for real-time ground transportation services," said Blair Kutrow,
vice president, product management at Nextel. "With Nextel's
wireless network, ALEPH's Mobile Data Terminal eHail Network is
delivering data access and on-screen instructions wherever remote
communications are critical. This solution is another example of
Nextel's strategy of providing vertical industries with wireless
data solutions that address specific application requirements."
"ALEPH understands the ground transportation business better
than any other software provider -- from the importance of real-time
dispatching of drivers to reservations and billing -- and that is
why we have remained a customer for over fifteen years," said
Lee Barnes, CEO, Washington Car and Driver. "With the addition
of Nextel's packet network to the ALEPH platform, we have been able
to stay ahead of other transportation companies by providing our
drivers and dispatchers a wireless end-to-end system -- for everything
from order entry to billing."
ALEPH's eHail Network combines dispatch software with Nextel's
Internet-ready phones to give ground transportation companies the
ability to fill non-revenue time instantly and reduce the need for
labor-intensive, voice-driven call centers and dispatch operations.
It also enables them to leverage the full range of Nextel services,
including Nextel Direct ConnectĘ░, a digital two-way radio feature
that provides instant contact with co-workers, friends, family and
any other Nextel customers in a local calling area with the push
of a button at a fraction of the cost.
The ALEPH-Nextel alliance brings companies
a breakthrough solution that delivers operational precision, managerial
expertise, outstanding economies and optimal bottom-line performance,"
said Ray Zhang, CEO of ALEPH. "Nextel provides the reliable,
high-bandwidth network that fleet operators need to support high
volumes of data communications."
Nextel provides an Internet Protocol, standards-based packet data
network that is tightly integrated with Nextel's voice network and
is available nationwide. Nextel's all-digital, integrated wireless
network offers an "always on" capability for data communications
regardless of a user's location as long as the phone is turned on
and in a Nextel coverage area. Nextel's robust infrastructure provides
continuous and reliable service.
